Gurudwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib

Gurudwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib is located conveniently on Chabhal Amritsar road. This is the place where Baba Budhaji is said to have spent a good part of his life. The site was also visited by Guru Arjan Dev Ji. According to a legend, Mata Ganga ji visited this place with her husband with a wish for son. She cleaned and washed the site as a homage to Baba Budha Ji and wished for ‘putar di daat’ (a son). Mata Ganga ji prepared delectable food for Baba ji. However, Babji refused to accept the food. So Ganga Devi Ji visited the site in person and prepared missi roti and a onion. Seeing the dedication and devotion, Baba Budha Ji was impressed and blessed Mata ji with a son. He crush the onion served by Ganga Ji and declared that the son would be grow up to be a great warrior to crush muslim invaders as he crushed the onion. And after some time, Mata Ganga Ji and Guru Arjan Dev Ji was blessed with a son whom they named Shri Guru Hargobind Singh Ji. The sacred Gurudwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib is situated precisely in the village of Thatta only about 20 km south of Amritsar city. This gurudwara was constructed to commemorate great Baba Budha, a venerable Sikh from the time of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism. Legends have it that Baba Budha was impressed by hospitality and selfless services of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru and his wife Mata Ganga Ji. Hence, Babaji blessed the couple with a son who was named Guru Hargobind Singh Ji. The present day complex of this gurudwara was constructed by Baba Kharak Singh, a staunch follower of Sant Gurmukh Singh Sevavale. The Gurudwara contains Shri Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikh that beautifully rests on a canopied seat constructed of pure white marble. The northern part of the hall has a sarovar covering an area of around 70 square. Meters. Pilgrims can rest in the two storied residential block constructed near the gurudwara. It also has a dining hall where devotees and visitors are served free food. The management and maintenance task of this Gurudwara is undertaken by Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee. The Gurudwara holds great historical and religious significance and is a must visit for all those on a tour to holy city of Amritsar.
