Durgiana Temple

Durgiana Mandir makes for a significant religious pilgrimage for all Hindus from the Northern India. Located conveniently in the Holy Amritsar city of Punjab state in India, the pious site is only a few yards away from main Railway Station and 1.5 km. from the Bus Stand. The pious city of Amritsar was also visited by Maryada Parshottam Lord Rama during the Ashwamegh Yagya. It is also said that Luv & Kush spent their childhood in this region their mother Mata Sita Devi at the Ashram of Maharishi Balmiki. It was at Ram Tirath that great King Ikshvaku, grandson of Sun God performed various Yagyas on this beautiful and sacred land. Gur Shai Mal Kapoor was the founder and builder of this beautiful Shree Durgiana Mandir. Kapoor was a great visionary and religious minded individual. The statue of this great personality stands tall in monumental alabaster. It is made in a sitting posture and established right opposite the main entrance, also referred to as the Darshani Deori. In the year 1924, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya laid down the foundation stone of this renowned temple. It was a pious day of Ganga Dashmi. Hindu faith is based on the philosophy of service to humanity. Hence, the followers of this religion has always went out of their way to dedicated themselves and extend a helping hand to the society. Shree Durgiana Committee (Regd) also believes in doing its bid by running several service units to ensure adept and ample help to the needy. The committee runs and manages Shree Lakshmi Narayan Ayurvedic College & Hostel to prepare students for B.A.M.S. Degree. It is affiliated to Baba Farid University of medical sciences, based in Faridkot. The “Sanskrit College” is also being run successfully for the society since a long time. Here, students are provided with knowledge of Sanskrit language and literature free of cost. Students are also offered stipends, lodging, free boarding, by the Durgiana Management Committee. The committee runs Shree Lakshmi Narain stitching school. It is dedicated to provide free training to widows in a bid to enable them earn a respectable livelihood. This temple offers comfortable night shelter to all pilgrims visiting. Devotees can rest for a night at the spacious and clean “Shrimati Dhanwant Kaur Dharamshala” located right within the temple vicinity. A special renovated residence for Sant (Sant Niwas) is also constructed here to accommodate honorary Katha Vachaks and their disciples. Special langar is prepared and run for all pilgrims and the needy individuals. It is run, maintained, and managed by the Durgiana Management Committee at “Langar Bhavan” in Parikarma.
